SINGLETON Quilters Inc members have been busy completing a raffle item to help raise money for the Singleton Kidney Dialysis Unit. Suzuki Violin Newcastle and Singleton are holding a charity event in memory of Mary Cann at Newcastle Grammar School on July 12 at 2pm.
Wanting to be involved in the event, the quilters group has made a quilt to help with the fund raising.
Choosing a design worked off a pattern that is a ‘quilt as you go’, most members were able to contribute to the item. Designer Monica Poole, said it was the first time she had seen the pattern completed.
The charity event will feature a concert with performances by year 12 music 2 and extension students including Claudia Cox, granddaughter of John Cann; Michael Nolan, a singer who topped the Hunter in music 2 and extensions in 2008; and group performances of violin students from Newcastle and Singleton.
Rather than acquiring donations, Lions and Rotary clubs will be sharing the cost of a bus to transport Singleton people to the event.
The bus will arrive at 1pm with light lunch being served before the concert at 2pm.
The raffle will be pre-sold and as well as the Singleton Quilters Inc Fruit Salad quilt, it will include other major prizes.
All proceeds raised will be going into the Singleton Kidney Dialysis Unit. If any business is interested in donating something for the raffle call John Cann on 6572 2196, Kay Sullivan on 6573 1072, or Dana Hudson at Country Gift World on 6571 2123.
